Earlier this week, I had the opportunity to visit the historic Fairwinds Estate, a unique, privately-owned property located on Lake Tahoe’s North Shore near Speedboat Beach at the California/Nevada stateline. The lakefront home, which was originally built in 1934, has only been owned by two families since it’s construction and has been exquisitely maintained throughout. The property offers an intimate and truly unique setting for weddings, family reunions, and even corporate retreats.
The home consists of two wings… The main structure houses two expansive living areas, which can be used for a reception, cocktail hour, ceremony, rehearsal dinner, etc. Also in the main house is the kitchen, which can accommodate caterers, and the caregivers quarters. The second part of house runs perpendicular to the main structure and houses 6 bedrooms, each with a walled in sun-room with an additional 2 or 3 beds. Each room also features a private bathroom. The house can sleep a total of 26 people, although it’s important to note that most of the beds are twins.
Upon walking into the main living area, I was immediately stunned by the sheer grand-ness of the living room. The vaulted ceilings are adorned with beautiful rustic chandeliers, and the huge curved window offers a panoramic vista of the lake below. The room is so magnificent already, it’s clear that it won’t need much decorating!
There are also several outdoor decks and, in the summer, these can serve a variety of purposes including dinner seating, cocktail areas, or even dancing areas. Ceremonies can also be held on the sandy beach just below the home. My favorite part of the beach location (besides the spectacular view of course) is the narrow, raised catwalk that the bride enters on. I will be sure to post some pictures after our event in November!
The Fairwinds Estate is not your typical wedding venue, so a wedding coordinator is strongly encouraged. In fact, it may even be difficult to book the venue without a coordinator involved. For more information on this stunning property, please contact us or visit the Fairwinds Estate website.
